      As primarily a guitarist I sometimes get frustrated with how different ways there are to play the same chord on the piano. For example you can play an F chord with only 2 or 3 notes or 8 notes! And am I correct in saying regarding the pedal, you don't want to pedal on the very first chord but rather right after?

    I learned piano when I was student, and teacher focused on all the classical pieces and I just followed to play on the notes, many many years later after I stopped playing, I have no idea what I was playing and what chords are all about and I lost almost all past knowledge of piano. After seeing these videos, I understand the Great way to start learning chord first so that you can make your own music later on with ease and keep the hobby going.

    An interesting video Kaitlyn. Having attained some skill and musical knowledge on guitar as a youth, I took up the piano/keyboards around my mid-twenties. At first, I didn’t succeed. I probably should have given up there and then. I’d have saved an awful lot of time and money. That was well over 40 years ago. I subsequently put in thousands of hours and found I could eventually play quite a lot, in a certain slapdash sort of way, but never have I, even once, felt at home on the instrument. The spatial and physical properties of keyboards seem to appeal only to certain personality types; one I don’t possess. Rick Wakeman once said something along the lines of, ‘if you don’t start piano in a serious way, before childhood is out, you’ll never fully develop the required musculature to cope with the instrument’s demands’. I have to agree. Certainly in my case, it’s true. My very best wishes to all the late learners out there.

    Just as with guitar, there is a difference between learning some basic major and minor chords to accompany yourself singing and playing simple songs. As opposed to being able to sight read music, play complex compositions, play jazz or classical music. The former is not that hard, the latter will take years.

    Lack of progress is the big killer. And scales. Why do people play scales? What does it do other than ingrain the sharps and flats? Your progress on the Chopin piece is because you are an exceptional player, an outlier. Most people cannot progress like that.

    • @pianoly
      @pianoly 5 дней назад

      With hard work and practice, you can learn piano. I am no outlier, I can promise you that. Watch my scales video-- they're incredibly important.

    I just bought myself a keyboard after wanting to play since I was a teenager. Im 26 and never really done anything that involves coordination, I fear I am unteachable. I can’t even get my finger placement correct and keep crossing fingers and lifting my fingers to hit the right notes. Also really struggling with incorporating the left hand as it feels really unnatural to play something totally different with the left hand. Anyone have any tips or is the keyboard/piano just not for me 😭

    I'm a new piano student, and since I'm retired, I have no excuses for not touching the keyboard every day. When I was learning to play golf, the best investment was not in clubs or club membership, but lessons. I can buy the best equipment, join exclusive clubs, but I can't buy game. I'm paying for weekly piano lessons now, as well as the annual fee for Piano Marvel to fill in the blanks during the week. Between the two sources, I can see improvement every week. Equally important is the excellent online instruction from Kaitlyn, and others. The generous free training and guidance are wonderful!
